So, a couple of weeks ago, I was in Austin, TX for a gig at SXSW (South By Southwest). For those not in the know, SXSW is a large music festival that happens every year. Its a mixture of local acts, national touring acts, and international touring acts.
Basically, it’s Austin’s Mardi Gras: tourists, concertgoers and varying types of revelers EVERYWHERE, in equally varying stages of non-sobriety. Road closures, traffic, and pedestrians are part of this masterpiece.
This goes on for about three weeks. However, I don’t live in Austin.
I was there for one day. To do one thing:
Play a gig with Rza!!!
Once again, for those not in the know, Here’s a link.
Now, for those of you who are hip-hop heads, this story gets better.
We get to Austin, do our sound check, chill, then get ready for the show. Rza has a surprise for the band, and boy is it a good one. He decides to bring a few members of the Wu-Tang Clan on stage! In no particular order: Masta Killa, Inspector Deck, Raekwon, and Ghostface Killah! (I lost my shit when Ghostface took the stage)
Protect Ya Neck!
Wu-Tang Forever!
Enjoy.
